Job Title: Anesthesiologist

Location: Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada

Job Type: Full-Time

Salary: Approximately $240,498 per year (based on data from Eastern Health) 

Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Anesthesiologist to join our clients medical team in Newfoundland and Labrador. The ideal candidate will be responsible for administering anaesthesia to patients undergoing surgical and medical procedures, ensuring patient safety and comfort throughout the perioperative period. This role involves collaboration with surgical teams, patient assessment, and post-operative care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer general and regional anesthetics before, during, and after surgical procedures.
  • Monitor patients’ vital signs and adjust anesthesia levels as necessary.
  • Evaluate patients’ medical histories to determine appropriate anesthesia plans.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Maintain accurate anesthetic records and documentation.
  • Provide post-anesthesia care and manage any complications that arise.
  • Participate in the supervision and training of medical students and residents, if applicable. 

Qualifications

  • Medical degree (MD or equivalent) from an accredited institution.
  • Completion of a residency program in Anesthesiology.
  • Certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Anesthesiology.
  • Valid license to practice medicine in Newfoundland and Labrador.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in high-pressure environments. 

Employment Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree or, in Quebec, completion of a college program and one year of pre-medicine university studies is usually required.
  • Graduation from an approved medical school and specific specialty training are required.
  • Completion of the certifying examinations of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and licensing by the provincial or territorial licensing authority are required.
  • Four to five years of specialty residency training are required.
  • Two years of subspecialty training may also be required.  

Work Environment

Anesthesiologists in Newfoundland and Labrador typically work in hospitals, surgical centers, and clinics. The role may involve irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and on-call duties, depending on the healthcare facility’s needs.
